Expecting love, times two | Orange County Pregnancy Portrait

By | 2017-02-09T16:33:51+00:00 May 4th, 2014|Bellies, Portraits|1 Comment

Oh my goodness! When I was contacted by this mama-to-be for pregnancy portraits, I was so excited! I just absolutely love photographing pregnant bellies, and when she shared the types of images she was hoping for, I was ecstatic because they were the types of images I was hoping to capture. We had planned for her to come to my home studio, but unfortunately, her doctors felt she should stay closer to bed – in bed in fact. It is one of the concerns of being pregnant with twins – the fear of premature birth. I offered to come to her home. After capturing newborns in tiny hospital rooms for the past three years, I’ve grown fairly adept at shooting in small spaces. She sent me a photo with her phone of her room, and even with a cell phone pic, I could see that the light coming in was beautiful, and the white walls would be like a huge reflector. She, her husband and two furbabies were absolutely amazing and so much fun to work with. She was able to stand for a few portraits, and I’m so happy she did. I just love, love, love all of the images we created together, but here is a small number of our favorites. (side note: So far, those babies are still cooking! )

Enjoy!

One of my photographer friends posed a challenge to me and some other photographer friends to put some of our photos into a slide show and post it on YouTube.   This is what I put together, and you can find it on YouTube, but I also wanted to share it here.

Beautiful or Creepy?

By | 2017-02-09T16:33:53+00:00 April 21st, 2010|Babies, Bellies|2 Comments

The first time I’d seen this done, an example of it was brought to me by my seven year old daughter.  It was inspired by photographer, Jennifer George, whose fine art portraiture takes my breath away.  My daughter had found her book, The Art of Pregnancy Photography, while we were browsing through the local bookstore.  My daughter and I both thought the technique was absolutely beautiful, and I was eager to try it out.   Being a mom, and loving the ultrasound images I have of my own babies, this image of the baby seemingly in utero (albeit, in the breach position instead of vertex), just elicited the same feeling of awe that 4-D ultrasound images did.  However, a few of my friends have thought it was kind of creepy.

This is my first attempt, and I’m pretty pleased with the results.  So is my daughter.  She told me this is one of her favorite photos I’ve done.    It doesn’t hurt that the model is gorgeous, who I have featured here before, as well as her adorable, newborn baby boy.  I will be posting more images of him soon, but I needed to get this one done for a school assignment, so I had to bump it up a bit in my editing queue.    Anyway, I would love to get some feedback on whether you think this is Beautiful or Creepy?

Expecting Mrs. C

By | 2010-12-21T13:59:30+00:00 March 24th, 2010|Bellies|1 Comment

Just finished editing these photos of the lovely Mrs. C.  She was 38 weeks pregnant at the time of the session, which was just over 2 weeks ago.  Did you know I used to be a photographer for a mall studio?  Well, I was.  I did shoot families with pregnant moms, but this was the first time shooting a session like this.  We started with an outfit of her own, and then started breaking out various yardages of fabric to wrap around her.  It was a lot of fun!   I have some definite favorite shots, and I also learned a lot.  Mrs. C was so calm and peaceful, and quite a beauty and easy to capture.
