Happy New Year 2014 | Orange County Portrait Photographer

By | 2017-02-09T16:33:51+00:00 December 30th, 2013|Families, Kids, Portraits|2 Comments

It’s that time again, when we reflect on the past year, and make resolutions for change in the New Year.  Is anyone really good at keeping resolutions?  So far, I have not been that great at it.  Why is it we decide to make changes and be better at things starting on January 1st?  Because it’s a symbol of rebirth, a new beginning, a chance to wipe the slate clean and start anew.  Reflecting back on the past year, it is clear that one thing I have not been good about is keeping this website updated, with fresh content.  I’m sure that makes it seem like I have put my camera in storage and stopped photographing all together.  That would not be further from the truth!  The truth is that at some point this year, I photographed my 500th newborn baby.   Almost all of those babies were photographed as a freelance photographer for Bella Baby Photography, and because of concerns over privacy and HIPPA violations, I’m not able to share them with you.  However, I am also still taking clients of my own, and have had the honor and privilege of photographing some gorgeous, amazing people this past year.   This past August, as I had been planning out my availability for the Holiday Family Portrait Season, I injured my foot.  It was so bad that I required surgery and had to remain non-weight bearing for almost three months.  It was more difficult than I could have ever imagined.  I was not only not able to photograph babies, but I could not even photograph my own family.  The first day of school?  I was tottering on a knee scooter trying to get photos of my kids without falling down, which I had done only days before.     I was able to start bearing weight again toward the end of October, and have been in Physical Therapy since then.  My foot is getting stronger, and I’m feeling better about it every day.  I did manage to sneak in a handful of sessions, including some of my own kids.   Now that most Holiday Cards have been sent, I wanted to share a few of the sessions I managed to squeeze in.   My New Years Cards are still waiting to go out, but I’ll give you a preview of them here too.

One of my photographer friends posed a challenge to me and some other photographer friends to put some of our photos into a slide show and post it on YouTube.   This is what I put together, and you can find it on YouTube, but I also wanted to share it here.

Valentine’s Day Cards for Kids | Des Moines Children’s Photographer

By | 2017-02-09T16:33:52+00:00 January 31st, 2011|Kids, Promos|1 Comment

A few years ago, the school photographer for my kids had offered personalized Valentine’s Day cards for the kids to give out during the Valentine’s Day party.  I thought it was a great idea, except for the part that it would use the standard school portrait, and the cards were not that exciting.  Every Valentine’s since then, I’ve promised myself that I was going to do a photoshoot with my kids, and make their Valentine’s Day cards.  This year, I finally did it.  What a great time, right?  The kids, my husband, and I went out to Centennial Park in Waukee yesterday, and spent less than 10 minutes shooting about 140 photos.  It was a balmy 20 degrees out, with overcast skies, and a snowflake falling here and there, and yet my kids were still game enough to take off their jackets for just those few minutes.  My wonderful husband came along to hold the reflector (which peeks into one of the outtakes below), but also to keep the kids laughing.  He is really SO much better at it than I am.   Actually, I think they laughed more for me than for him because I would tell my husband, “OK, make them laugh!” and the kids would just start laughing.  Seriously, he told one joke and then had nothing, but just the thought had the kids rolling.  Here are some of the outtakes of the shoot, and the final product of their cards which will be printed on wallet sized photos to be given out at school.

And the final products…

I’m dreaming of a White Christmas in Iowa | Des Moines Kids Photographer

By | 2017-02-09T16:33:53+00:00 December 29th, 2010|Families, Kids|0 Comments

The snow that was delivered on Christmas Eve guaranteed that our first Christmas in Iowa would be a white one. Only two of my three were up to going out to play in it just so I could capture a few images. It still wasn’t really the right kind of snow for snowmen (according to my Minnesota born husband), but they were able to toss a few snowballs around, and make snow angels.  Our dog and the neighbor’s dog had a fun time playing it in too!
